The Rule
-----------------------
At the beginning of learning English as a second language, whenever I was reading a book, I merely, was looking at the grammar points, and focused on vocabularies within the context, forgetting what the book is really talking about. The obvious conclusion was: "English isn't a language, rather it is sort of rules."
Sharing this with my book-worn friends, changed the image. What they had seen was a form of amusement, and joy besides gaining comprehensive knowledge.
When I go walking, ( which evening time when the lights of the college are shining, along with the gracious smell of the flowers, is my favorite pastime), my attention is to be able to reflect the think, to look at the marvelous view of the star on the sky, and things around me. I found what my book-worm friends said very interesting.
It was an amazing discovery! The next day I took my book, walking out in the cumpas while reading my favorite book (Rich Dad Poor Dad) I really did feel as if I was reading the book with my whole body, my concentration balance was better and I less focused on rules( what grammar point is used.)
I don't know what made open the page on the rules; but as I read it, I grew increasingly dismayed. I did not consider the rules of reading. The next day I took my book, went to a silent place, and put away all the distracting things. During the reading time I was thinking more about the rules in order not to be distracted, to focused, and enjoy reading my book. What happened is, I did not enjoy reading, it was less interesting for the reason that I focused more on the rules rather than the text and what the author really means by gathering those sentences.
I dicided to forget everything. Now I go walking and sometimes in my room picking up my book, and start reading, enjoy the playing of authors with the words, and feeling nothing except reading with the whole body. In addition, enjoying the environment and voices the accompany me while reading. I am happy with my instinctive reading, even if am not considering the rules, but learning much more comparing to the time I was considering all the rules.
The teachers would better make the environment for the students to make them enjoy learning rather than imposing the specific rules on them to follow, as time passes they, themselves would know betterr the rules as they instinctively practice with joy. The more you restrictly doom the rules on them to do so, the less they learn. I don't know why we human beings are so obsessed with making rules about everything.
